August 2003

The CLA game fair near Leeds was the first event of the month. Last year's was in Romsey, which was about 240 miles and five hours more convenient.  However by getting up painfully early and driving like mad we made it to Leeds by 1100 am - then queued until 1300 to get into the fair. Grr.

Worth it though and seeing Britain's top falconer, Jemima Parry Jones, was a definite highlight.  She's leaving Britain as the hunting laws (and proposed hunting laws) in this country make her profession impossible to follow here.

Do not try this at home. We saw some very cool Landies at the game fair. Harewood House, the game fair venue.
The Real CA says Keep on Hunting
The Countryside Alliance plane.  The Liberty and Livelihood T-shirts were everywhere again this year, but the atmosphere was less keyed-up than last year, when the CA march (which attracted 400 000 ticket holding marchers) was just six weeks away. It was a scorchingly hot weekend.  We drank litres and litres of water.
Back home the first marrow was ready to be harvested. The anvil, now in place.

The jungle which is our late summer patio.  Four foot lemon grass! Less tranquil - next door's towering inferno.  They have systematically torched the top third of their garden - right next to our old wooden sheds containing paint stripper, oil, etc.
We did make some progress on the house - taking the meter from the kitchen - very convenient - to outside.  Beats being greeted with the word Schlumberger over breakfast every morning. We were helped as always by the cat.
Last picture of the patio.  Honest. OK, maybe not.
